An online marketer is always looking for new information sources in order to keep fresh content at hand.

A great source for new information is Private Label Rights. We know this can be free material, or acquired by minimal expense, in most cases.

But, did you know or even consider that outdated PLR material, or PLR thought to be too generic or technically lacking, is actually potentially pretty darn valuable.

How can outdated PLR be valuable? An online marketer needs ideas for product creation, for example. Outdated PLR can provide just the “spark” of an idea that a marketer sees he can make into a useful, in-demand, valuable product of his own creation.

So, even if the PLR material is outdated, its underlying idea still remains, just waiting to be livened up a bit. A marketer takes that idea and rebuilds it with updated details and enhances it with technology and features to make it valuable in today’s market.

Now, what may have been viewed as worthless or obsolete has been taken apart and rebuilt into a valuable and appealing product by today’s current standards – and the PLR life cycle will continue on in the information marketplace.

Until next time,

We know that Private Label Rights (PLR) material allows the person who acquired the PLR to use it as is, alter it, build onto it, and make it into something of his own creation. In a variety of ways, he can put it to use, all legally without fear of copyright infringement in any way.

A lot of PLR material is available for low cost, high cost, and a lot is freely available. Obtaining free PLR material can be a gift offering to you from a website you visited for the purchase of a product or as an inducement or bonus to join a membership site, as a couple of examples.

There are quality concerns on choosing PLR materials. You have to find trusted sources. Much of the free material is good, but there is some out there that is bad. By bad, I mean it can be outdated information or too general or generic that its value is practically nil. Same holds true for material you pay for. But in just about all cases, the costs for PLR material is minimal, compared to the benefits you can reap.

The good news is that competition for great high-quality content material is so strong today, that you are more likely than ever before to find PLR sources you can rely on to use as your own building blocks.

Okay, that’s all understandable from this point, but how does this benefit the original author, way back in the beginning?

The original author, or writer, or creator, of the PLR material you acquired, was paid well for his work in the beginning. After all, remember, this is his line of work – he is an author. He is paid well for his subject writing and thereby continues on producing his work for the marketplace.

What is unique with PLR material, though, is that after you have made your own revisions, you have completed an original work yourself! You can rightly be viewed as an original author!

Your work can be copyrighted if you wish or you can offer it as new PLR material made available for sale to the marketplace as a new information product or presented in any manner you choose, perhaps on your own website.

Next time – what you can do with outdated or too general or generic PLR material. It can still hold value to you!

until next time,

Some people find it hard to believe that it is possible, ethical, or legal to take and use the work of someone else. To change it and then add new data or material, images, or sound, then gives you the right to go ahead and claim it as your own work. Wow, really!!

This newly transformed product has become your own unique product creation, spurred on by the Private Label Rights material that you reworked. That PLR product that you acquired turned loose your creative abilities and enabled you to get to work “building” it to suit your vision. By the way, you are under no obligation to mention the name of the original author. The original author, of course, had willingly made it available for sale as a Private Label Rights product or the author had offered it free for use. That is how you were able to acquire the Private Label Product in the first place.

By reworking the Private Label Rights product and thereby “refreshing” it, the product now has renewed usability and lives on the marketplace. This describes what is done, what is meant to be done, with Private Label Rights products.

New research added in to a Private Label Rights product you acquired, along with added features, such as audio or video, enhances and updates the new product – which means you created a new product.

Don’t think you cannot create your own product. You really can! And you, the author, can now offer it for sale as a Private Label Product or use it some way as information dispensed to your newsletter readers or followers on your website, for example.

Note: before you buy a Private Label Rights product, make sure you are made aware by the author, by way of license or certification which accompanies your Private Label Product, of what you can do or cannot do with the PLR product. Do not assume anything! See it in writing, to be on the safe side.

till next time,

First of all, we know that the sale, the dissemination, of information is what drives many people to go online to the internet.

Because information is such a powerful force behind people using the internet, it follows that the selling of information, in product form and services, has become the basis of countless successful online businesses.

Many online entrepreneurs will tell you that, in order to gain real high-income generating success, you must have your own product.

Okay, let’s say that is true. After all, you are trying to sell something of use to people seeking the information product you are offering. And the product necessarily would represent you, your market, your category (niche) within that market.

Now, how do you create that product that everyone says you must do?

You can create it on your own, from scratch. Perhaps you have a level of expertise to start off with, but you want to boost that level. So, you begin to educate yourself by buying products and digging into heavy-duty research: buy some books, buy and test products of competitors, get involved with forums, and so on. This all takes enormous time and effort, and that’s good as an accomplishment to your personal knowledge base.

However, let’s employ another way of creating our own product. Something that can be much more efficient in information product creation.

Private Label Rights is applied to an information product that you can acquire which has attached to it, certification that you have rights to the use of that product.

These rights to the Private Label Product represent permission, or “license”, for you to alter, change, rearrange, edit, or improve the Private Label Product you acquired.

However you rearrange it, have it fit your particular personality and your style of communicating. You want it to sound like you, not everybody else. Get some good feedback, too, and you can proceed to your final copy. And as a result….

You have created your own information product!

till next time,

Jackie

Let’s say you found an old book dating back to 1872, for example. The book is big, old, and contains data pertaining to immigrants arriving onboard ships at ports along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. You know enough that this book. . .

definitely is in the Public Domain in the U.S. (published before 1923!)

consists of material popular in several categories on eBay, such as genealogy, history, immigrants, old ships, photos and maps

is a great example of taking one item that can be used to make many “derivative” products you can create and sell

Since your research shows that there is a market ready, willing, and eager for products you could produce from your old book, you think to yourself what can you do with it?

You want to make a go of this because you have read and studied about Public Domain being a great resource on creating a variety of products that can be used in building your own successful online business.

This 1872 dusty old publication is available for downloading at one of the very best sources for Public Domain material – Project Gutenberg – and it is a continually growing source. Items enter the Public Domain every day – those are all the works that have fallen out of copyright protection. This means that their copyrights expired and their copyrights have not been renewed.

Go visit Project Gutenberg at www.gutenberg.org and spend some time exploring. You’ll have fun at what you’ll discover there!

Because your Public Domain book is available for downloading, you can keep your original physical copy intact and not take it apart for scanning and re-working the contents. Who knows, you may want to sell your physical copy someday knowing someone would pay you a good sum for it on eBay or Amazon.com. But, that’s a whole other direction so let’s stay on topic.

So, for now, here’s what you can do:

make print copies from some of the great illustrations and photographs in the book, after you have altered them (just enough to make them your own creation) so that you now are able to copyright them as your own work

group information together featuring specific surnames, which ships these people arrived on, and maps and photos displaying the people and where they located in their new land

translate the book into another language – perhaps just a sub-section from the book for immigrants from Ireland, or Russia, or wherever!

History and genealogy buffs are always on the lookout for information to fill their interests.

A huge demand exists for all types of information in all kinds of product format offerings. Doing some research on what categories are in demand right now will give you ideas of your own to use, or you can follow the big selling trends that are the most popular today.

From this you can easily get started on your own business creating products from works you found in the Public Domain.

Till next time,

Jackie

Public Domain consists of works that are not protected by copyright law. That is what defines Public Domain. No permission to use is required from the copyright holders, if they were copyright holders in the first place.

Some works were never copyrighted when originally produced. Think of all the free software we can simply download and use, for example. And as I mentioned the other day in my post, much of the reports and other materials published by the many divisions of the U.S. government are copyright free. All of the agencies of the federal government have material that can be copied and downloaded, or physically obtained, and used in a multitude of ways in various business enterprises. There are photos available for all of the National Parks, photos of wildlife, photos of our cities and towns and highways, photos chronicling past historical events – even photos of our paper money and coins produced at our mints. You simply access the government sources for this material and often it is simply a matter of downloading what you want, or obtaining the physical item, and sizing it and re-working it to use in a variety of repackaged product offerings.

Again, when it comes to published works, copyright law must not be overlooked.

Basic copyright guidelines

anything published in the U.S. before 1923 is in the Public Domain

for works published between 1923 and 1978 in the U.S., that do not have a valid copyright notice, they are in the Public Domain

for works published in the U.S. between 1923 and 1963, that did not renew their copyright in the 28th year following first publication, they are in the Public Domain.

Note: This is a small amount of information on copyright restrictions to make you aware of the basics. You are individually responsible to be certain you are following the law on copyright, if any, concerning your chosen “work.” This is nothing to fear, though! You just need to know!

The Public Domain is a huge universe to be tapped into and I will talk about some ways to profit in a small business using Public Domain material.

Till next time,

First – What is the “Public Domain”

The Public Domain refers to the huge and diverse compilation of creative works that are not under the protection of copyright law. Artisitic creative works include films and plays, paintings, photographs, drawings, illustrations, cartoons, postcards, to name some examples. Literary and musical examples include books, magazines, articles, instruction manuals, courses and workbooks, reports, and musical compositions and lyrics. And since government printing and publishing is all at taxpayer expense, government publications of all kinds (except Classified!) are in the Public Domain.

Next – How does copyright law relate to the Public Domain

To put it simply, for the time being, for a “work” to be in the Public Domain means that it is free from the protection of copyright law. In other words, this would mean that anyone is free to copy, change, modify, and “repurpose” and eventually sell an item obtained from the public domain that they have transformed into a creative product of their own – known as a “derivative” product.

This is where entrepreneurship comes in!

By using the Public Domain and discovering and locating works and then changing them yourself into your own newly created “derivative” product, you can now use them to grow or build a very profitable business.

The Public Domain is a great resource for content for a virtually limitless category of usages and applications. It is definitely worth looking into and I will have more on the topic of Public Domain next time.

Go visit these 2 websites – Public Domain Books Online at www.pdbooksonline.com and Public Domain Photos at www.public-domain-photos.com.

NOTE If you think you have found a book, a photograph, or anything else you believe to be in the Public Domain, you must be sure to check its status to be certain. One rule is – anything published (in the U.S.) before 1923 is safely in the Public Domain. There are more details, however, to be aware of so that you avoid any trouble with copyright law issues.

Till next time,

This morning I heard on the radio as reported by ABC national news that only about 8% of registered eBay users actually sell anything on eBay.

I thought that this was an amazing piece of information that I wouldn’t have been able to guess at an answer if I were asked.

Most everyone going to eBay is there to look around and kind of “window shop”.

The purpose of the news article was to point to the method many people use if they have items they want to sell on eBay.

Many people use small stand-alone businesses that do the selling for people who don’t want to do the selling themselves on eBay.

Most of us know there are these eBay selling businesses, but we probably didn’t know that the vast majority of sellers on eBay are not ordinary people selling just an item or so here and there just to empty out some closet or garage.

There are of course the usual household items sold by ordinary people. But it is mainly people actively engaged in selling goods and products as a small business that makes up the marketplace array displayed on eBay.

This just brings to light once again that even if you don’t want to go through the arrangements of locating products you could sell on eBay, you can easily have all the business you could handle by setting up your own business selling other people’s items on eBay for them.

This could be a small home-based operation to a store-front business on Main Street and also a business that could be marketed online for customers as well.

Till next time,

Jackie

Does it look like ebooks might be falling out of favor as a preferred format for distributing digital products?

There seems to be growing talk criticizing the long-known features of click here, save it to there, and then printing the thing out – when you get around to it. Seems like that is getting to be oldfashioned in many circles today.

There is a point to this criticism – often when you buy something, you want to have it now in its complete package and ready to use – now.

Granted, when you buy a dvd of something, you still have to wait to receive it, but you don’t have to put in any more of your time and effort and supplies (paper) after you hit the pay button.

With an ebook, you pay for it and then you have to take the steps to get it downloaded and then, of course, printed out on your own paper on your own printer. Or you could let it sit on your hard drive – inconvenient and apt to be forgotten. Not all of these ebooks are exactly cheap when you also figure in the extras that customers have to go through to get the product they already paid for. It’s just not quite instant or maybe it’s just not “hip” any more to go the ebook route. I think it’s more like that – ebooks are just not quite as preferred any more.

But . . .

Ebooks are not dead! They just have more forms of format competition now. Videos and audio videos, dvds, and good old preprinted and bound books and reports are getting a lot of attention.

We are becoming much more in tune to watching videos and listening to audio media – look at the popularity of YouTube and others like it. More information products are also formatted into video courses and that just expands the ability of the purchaser to understand and use the product- visually depicted instructional format lets things come to life. Add audio and you have a great learning package!

I think ebooks will be around for quite a while yet. There still is a good thing about the format even though there is some work and effort (though it is a small amount of effort!) required of an ebook purchaser. Some ebooks fit into the ebook format and simply are not video candidates.

But, there is no doubt that audiovideos, audio, dvds, and regular book formats are moving to the information media distribution frontlines.

Things continually evolve in internet marketing and that is part of continuing education in the business, wouldn’t you say?

Till next time,

First off, let me say that Planning is, indeed, very important. No argument there at all.

Without Planning, you won’t know where to plant that first step to get things going.

And without Planning, you won’t know when you have accomplished each of all the intermediate goals, or milestones, along the way, not to mention what the big goal is to be at the finish line.

Here’s where Action Trumps Planning, though:

We can draw up the greatest plan for our project-to-be. Spend all kinds of time on it. Sometimes months and months of time on it! Fine-tuning and more fine-tuning.

But unless we take Action, nothing happens!

Plans are like a skeleton. Action, however, puts meat on them bones!!

Thanks for visiting,
